Unmukt Chand promoted to second year

Unmukt Chand promoted to second year

He might have won India the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, but right now captain Unmukt Chand is struggling to retain his seat as a BA student of St Stephen’s College.

Barred from
taking the second semester exams because of low attendance, Chand earlier approached the Delhi High Court, which ordered the college to allow him to write his exams. But as he would be a little late in approaching the court, he could write only two exams out of four.

The university
mandates that students should pass 50% of all exams in both semesters combined.

“He
is really a bright boy and it has made the country proud but he'd just 8% attendance attending collegeI'm just following university guidelines and he is not fulfilling the circumstances for promotion,” said Valson Thampu, principal, St Stephen’s College.

The college
has already established several of international level players on its rolls, but many have escaped such harsh penalty.

to focus on basics again

The
consequence of Unmukt’s second semester exams, as per rules, will be declared by the High Court now. The following hearing for the case is on September 14.

University officials, however, say his second semester result
is not going to matter because he has passed all exams in the first semester.

Since
the main makes his stand clear, it is now as much as a legal court to determine whether Unmukt will be able to get admission within the second semester or not.
